I wanted to embed this, but could only set it up as a link. Anyway, what interested me was the length of the fish. It was almost ten feet long. Your average corgi (the small dog that the late queen liked so much) is about two feet long, so the fish was in fact as long as five corgis.
If you click on the link you will see a decent-sized picture of the fish. (It’s the long gray one at the top, apparently about to bite a tetrapod.) It was a lobe fin fish and thus closer to our ancestors than ray fin fish are. I find it kind of ordinary looking. There are far more amazing fish in the Devonian. But I do like the measurement.
